One Bright Idea after Another: Lighting Solutions from Johnson Controls

When you consider how many forms of lighting are available in today's vehicles, it’s easy to see why this subject is so important.

From map lamp and reading lights to ambient lighting, illuminated displays, backlit controls, and indicators, vehicle interiors present lighting challenges that are unique to every model. After all, designers must consider a wide range of functional and aesthetic factors. What are the information warning, location, ,general information , and safety functions that these lights must fulfill? Are they convenient to use? Do they harmonize with the vehicle's overall design? Does their cost justify their use?

To answer these – and many other questions – we have integrated design teams, as well as consumer research and engineering groups that utilize lighting laboratories in our North American and European Technology Centers. Their goals? To develop lighting solutions that are:

Integrated with our interior components
Harmonious in luminous intensity, color, and appearance with other lamps and backlit components throughout the vehicle
Designed and developed using ASAP and SPEOS optical modeling software and Johnson Controls proprietary design tools
Designed to address consumer needs, implement new lighting technologies, make the most of integration opportunities, and provide lower-cost lighting products for our customers
